LUT to Lightroom Converter
Drop a .cube file and get a Lightroom preset (.xmp) plus a .dng for the free Lightroom Mobile app. Everything runs in your browser: without your tick the file goes nowhere.
How do you use a LUT in Lightroom? Lightroom can’t open a .cube file directly, but it can read a LUT stored inside a profile. This converter packs your .cube into a 32×32×32 table (the largest size Lightroom reads) and gives you two files: an .xmp for Lightroom, Lightroom Classic and Camera Raw, and a .dng for the free Lightroom Mobile app on iPhone and Android. Free, no sign-up.
How to add it to Lightroom
Phone, free app
- Download the .dng to your phone (on iPhone it lands in Files → Downloads).
- Lightroom → add photos → pick this .dng.
- Open it → ••• top right → Create Preset. Make sure Profile is ticked, then save.
- Done: the preset is under Presets → Yours and works on any photo in one tap. The slider under it sets the strength.
No preset needed if you prefer: on the .dng tap ••• → Copy Settings, open your photo → ••• → Paste Settings.
Desktop
- Lightroom Classic: File → Import Develop Profiles and Presets → pick the .xmp.
- Lightroom: File → Import Profiles & Presets.
- Camera Raw and Photoshop: Presets tab → ••• → Import Profiles & Presets.
- The preset shows up in the “GradeColor Converter” group (rename it under Advanced).
On a phone the .xmp goes in via Presets → Yours tab → ••• → Import Presets. If that option is missing, use the .dng.
Video
- Nothing to convert for video: editors read .cube directly.
- Premiere Pro: Lumetri Color → Creative → Look → Browse.
- DaVinci Resolve: Project Settings → Color Management → Open LUT Folder.
- Final Cut Pro: Custom LUT effect. CapCut: Adjust → LUT.
The same LUT on photos and video keeps your feed and your Reels in one color.
Questions
Can Lightroom open a LUT without a converter?
Not directly: Lightroom does not read .cube files. You can put a LUT into a profile through Photoshop (Camera Raw, Create Profile), but that takes a computer with Photoshop and some time. This converter does the same in a second, in the browser, even on a phone.
What is the difference between the .xmp and the .dng?
The .xmp is the preset itself: import it into Lightroom on a computer, into Camera Raw or into Lightroom on a phone. The .dng is a photo that already carries your look. The free Lightroom Mobile app opens it like any photo, and a couple of taps turn it into your own preset.
Why 32×32×32? Do I lose quality?
32×32×32 is the largest table Lightroom reads. 33 and 65 point LUTs are resampled from their own values. On our LUTs the average difference is below one ΔE unit, which the eye can’t see. Small differences can appear only in the brightest colors of very harsh LUTs.
Is my LUT uploaded anywhere?
Only if you tick “Send my .cube file to GradeColor” under the file button yourself. Then only the .cube itself is sent to us, without photos or personal data, so we can see which LUTs people use and improve the converter. We never publish or sell the files we receive. Without the tick the file is read and converted right in your browser and goes nowhere. Photos for the before / after view are never uploaded.
Why does a LOG LUT look wrong?
LOG LUTs (S-Log, V-Log, I-Log, D-Log) turn the flat grey camera image into normal contrast. A photo in Lightroom is already developed, so such a LUT makes it far too contrasty and loud. For photos use creative LUTs made for Rec.709 or sRGB.
Which LUTs work?
.cube files of any size (17, 33, 65 and up), 3D and 1D. You can load several at once and download everything as one ZIP. .3dl, .look and .csp are not supported yet: save the LUT as .cube in DaVinci Resolve or Photoshop.
Can I change the strength?
Yes. The preset and the profile both have an Amount slider from 0 to 200%. Every other setting (light, white balance) stays free, the look sits on top.
Is it really free?
Yes, no sign-up and no limits. If you want ready-made looks already tested on phone photos, have a look at our packs below.
